Mohammed Siraj did the hard toil for India when the Men in Blue were struggling to wrap up the middle order of England at Edgbaston on Day 3 of the 2nd Test. Scalping a six-fer in quick succession and breaking a long-standing partnership might not be a piece of cake for everyone and Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel just appreciated that toil of Siraj.
Morkel Admits Having 'Lot Of Respect' For Siraj
Speaking of Mohammed Siraj's silent hard work, Morkel expressed his deep respect for the pacer and acknowledged his contribution to the game.
"Siraj is a guy that I've got a lot of respect for. He's a guy that always will push his body to the limits. I think sometimes the guilty part of him is trying too hard so for us. It's about managing that sort of aggression and managing that intensity because he really bowls with his heart on his sleeve. I think sometimes those sorts of things can give you that inconsistency," Morkel said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Morkel further expressed his admiration for Mohammed Siraj while acknowledging the fact that the Indian quick often goes unnoticed and is under-credited for his contributions.
"In a match that he's now the leader of the attack, he got the wickets, but for me in terms of effort and energy and with a sore body, he's always done and will put his hand up, and he wants to bowl that over. I don't think sometimes we give him enough credit for that," Morkel added.
Mohammed Siraj & Co. Need To Fire On Day 5
Meanwhile, apart from Siraj, Akash Deep also scalped 4 important wickets of English batters in the first innings as Prasidh Krishna went wicketless with a wayward spell.
Looking ahead, India declared a massive lead of 600+ on day 4 for England to chase and with Ben Stokes and Co. currently standing at 72/3 at the end of Day 4, things are nearing a stalemate at Edgbaston. Mohammed Siraj, Aksh Deep and Prasidh might have to step up and turn the tide with quick wickets if India wants to bring the match home.
