On July 6, 2019, Rohit Sharma rewrote the record books by scoring his fifth century in a single ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup edition, the most by any batter in a single tournament. He attained this feat in India's last group stage game against Sri Lanka at Headingley, Leeds.

Rohit hammered an impressive 103 off 94 balls, including 14 fours and 2 sixes, as India chased Sri Lanka's score of 264 with ease. This century was not about figures; it was about style, authority, and consistency.

Rohit Sharma Owned The 2019 World Cup With Remarkable Form

The Indian opener had already hammered hundreds against South Africa, Pakistan, England, and Bangladesh during the tournament before this, a clear reflection of his stunning form.

With a total of 5 centuries, Rohit Sharma went past Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored 4 centuries in the 2015 World Cup. Rohit’s World Cup run tally soared to 648 runs in just 9 matches, making him the tournament’s leading run-scorer.

Though India got knocked out in the semi-finals by New Zealand, Rohit Sharma’s individual performance stood as one of the greatest highlights of the 2019 World Cup.

He became India's permanent opener in all forms later on. Following the resignation of Virat Kohli as captain, Rohit took over and led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy victories.

Yet the ODI World Cup aspiration remains incomplete. Under Rohit's guidance, India lost the 2023 World Cup final against Australia at Ahmedabad.
