Indian cricket star Virat Kohli applauded Shubman Gill for making history in the Edgbaston Test against England. Gill scored 269 and 161 in two innings, and Kohli referred to him as ‘Starboy.’

Gill is having the most memorable Test of his international career as a batter. In the second Test against England held at Edgbaston, he scored 269 in the first innings.

While that knock was his career-best performance, Gill notched a level up to hit 161 in the second inning, thus accumulating a total of 430 runs in one Test alone.

Shubman Gill now has the most runs by an Indian batter in a single Test. This is the first instance of any batter in Test history to have a double hundred and a 150+ score in the same Test.

He is also the third Indian captain after Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar to have multiple hundreds in a single Test. Meanwhile, as Gill made history and earned the world’s applause, his predecessor Kohli also posted a heartwarming message on his Instagram.

“Well done, star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this,” Kohli said in the caption.

Shubman Gill was dismissed on 161 by Shoaib Bashir. After his dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja hit a few runs, and India declared at 427 to set up a 608-run mega target for England.

Gill Beats Kohli, Gavaskar With Resurgence At Edgbaston

India’s young skipper, Shubman Gill, has joined an elite club of Indian Test captains by scoring 500+ runs in a single series, alongside legends Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar. After smashing a record-breaking 269 in the first innings, Gill continued his golden form with another sublime knock at Edgbaston.

With three Tests still left in the series, he’s well on track to surpass Kohli’s 593 and even Gavaskar’s 732. Gill now holds the record for most runs by an Indian captain in their debut Test series.
