Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane recently welcomed Shreyas Iyer to the team ahead of the 2nd semi-final match of Ranji Trophy 2024 against Tamil Nadu. Iyer previously missed the quarterfinal match against Baroda due to back pain and will look to make a comeback in the team during the semis.

Shreyas Iyer was previously ruled out after the second test match against England due to a stiff back and has been kept out of the team ever since. Multiple reports suggested that the player had been purposely kept out of the team due to poor form.

Iyer recently made headlines as he was excluded from the BCCI’s Annual Contract List 2023-24. The BCCI’s bold decision was announced in an attempt to revive the popularity of domestic cricket in India, as the board kept out prominent players from the list.

Ajinkya Rahane lauds Shreyas Iyer’s Impact Mumbai in Ranji Trophy

Mumbai’s captain Ajinkya Rahane appreciated Shreyas Iyer for turning up to perform for the team for the upcoming semi-final match of Ranji Trophy 2024. Rahane also talked about the experience Iyer brings to the team.

Ajinkya Rahane said,

“He's an experienced player. His contribution has been amazing whenever he turned up for Mumbai. We are thrilled to have him on our team for the semifinal. I don't think he needs any encouragement or advice.”

Ajinkya also reflected on how Shreyas Iyer’s presence in the dressing room helps the team members get along, which leads to better performance of the team on the field. He further talked about not taking any added pressure of playing the semi-final or final match by treating all the games fairly.

Rahane added,

“He (Shreyas Iyer) has always contributed with the bat for Mumbai, and his being around other players in the dressing room will also help the team's cause. We are playing really well. We don't want to think about the quarterfinal, semifinal or final. It is just another game for us. If we can do that and be in the moment as a team and individuals, it will help us.”

After facing a major backlash from the cricket fraternity for not playing domestic cricket and not on national duty, Shreyas Iyer will be looking to make a strong comeback while putting runs on the board.
