PSL's new batting sensation Khawaja Nafay recently won the hearts of Indian fans as he reflected on admiring Rohit Sharma for his batting techniques. The 22-year-old revealed that he loves the way the Indian skipper turns the ball towards the stands even with soft hands.

Khawaja Nafay gained the spotlight during the 4th Match of the Pakistan Super League 2024. The young top-order batter smashed 60 runs off 31 deliveries with four fours and three massive sixes for Quetta Gladiators against Lahore Qalandars. The Gladiators sealed an effortless victory in the game by chasing 188 runs with 5 balls remaining in the game.


Khawaja Nafay on Idolising Babar Azam and Following Rohit Sharma’s shot selection

During an exclusive chat with ESPNCricinfo, Nafay credited the former Pakistan captain Babar Azam for his consistency and always attempting to learn from him. He also talked about playing for the national team in future while concentrating on PSL 2024.

"Babar is my favourite because of his consistency. He's already scored a hundred and two fifties here. Scoring runs in every match is not easy, so when he does it I try to learn from that. Every Pakistani cricketer wants to play for Pakistan, but I'm currently focused on the PSL because this is where I am. We still have half a season to go, so this is where my mind is."

While talking about the Indian skipper’s batting prowess and six-hitting abilities with soft hands, Khawaja Nafay expressed his desire to be able to do the same. He further said,

“With Rohit, he plays with such soft hands and even hits sixes with soft hands. If you look at the shots he plays, he generates such power with soft hands. It's something I'd also like to do."

Khawaja Nafay has been an interesting pick for Quetta Gladiators. The right-handed batter has scored 113 runs for the team in the five matches the team has played in the 9th season of the PSL 2024. With five games pending in the league stage of the tournament, Nafay would be keen to accelerate his knocks for the team.
