'Dreamt Of Becoming A Policer Officer' - Deepti Sharma Shares Joy Of Joining UP Police

India’s bowling all-rounder Deepti Sharma has recently been honoured as the Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Uttar Pradesh Government. Sharma was felicitated with the prestigious police title along along with the cash price of INR 3 Crores by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

Deepti Sharma has been a key squad member of the women’s Indian cricket team for quite sometime after delivering consistent performances and saving the team and crunch situations. Deepti has represented India in 194 international matches after making her debut in 2014, while registering 229 wickets for India. 

Deepti Sharma shared the joyous news of her appointment as the deputy superintendent of police of Uttar Pradesh, through our social media accounts. 

"Humbled by the Chief Minister of UP Yogi Adityanath recognized for excellence in the Asian Games and my appointment as DSP in UP Police. Forever grateful," Deepti Sharma wrote.


While exclusively talking to Deccan Herald about her accomplishments and journey, Deepti expressed her desire to wear the police uniform since her early days. She also expressed her gratitude towards her family who consistently supported her in her dreams. 

"I always dreamt of becoming a police officer. I used to see that it is a difficult job but I always wanted to wear that uniform once and wanted to see how it felt. My parents also supported me that I should become a police officer. My family and I are really happy with this recognition," Deepti Sharma told Deccan Herald.

Deepti was recently awarded as the women's international cricketer of the year for the year 2022-23 in the BCCI’s Annual Awards along with the ICC Player of the Month in December 2023. Following the achievements, Sharma also climbed to the number 2 spot in the recent ICC Women's T20I bowling rankings.

The Indian all-rounder will be seen in action during the second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2024), donning UP Warriorz's jersey.
