In a recognition of her stellar achievements in the cricketing world, India's all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The 26-year-old cricketer was felicitated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also presented her with a cash prize of INR 3 crore. The ceremony, held on Saturday, not only acknowledged Deepti's contributions but also celebrated other Agra-based athletes.

The Uttar Pradesh government's decision to appoint her as DSP is a nod to her contributions to sports and society. The Chief Minister, during the ceremony, extended his best wishes for her future endeavours, highlighting the pride and inspiration she brings to the state and the country.


It is worth mentioning that from the lanes of Awadhpuri in Agra to the global cricketing stage, Deepti's journey is nothing short of inspirational. Her humble beginnings in the neighbourhood alongside local talents, including Deepak Chahar, laid the foundation for a career marked by grit and excellence. Making her international debut in 2014, Deepti has since been a mainstay in the national team, appearing in 194 matches and claiming 229 wickets.

Her skills as an all-rounder are evident. Not only has she been instrumental in India's cricketing campaigns, but she has also shone in major sporting events. Her achievements include a gold medal at the Asian Games in China and a silver at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In a nail-biting final against Australia, Deepti's efforts were crucial despite the team's second-place finish.

December 2023 saw Deepti Sharma's talent further recognized when she was named the ICC ‘Player of the Month.’ This accolade, making her the second Indian woman cricketer to receive such an honour, came on the heels of her remarkable performance in the ODI series against Australia, where she emerged as the joint-leading wicket-taker.
