Indian women's cricket team clashed with Australia for the third and final ODI game of the three-match series earlier on Tuesday at Mumbai's famous Wankhede Stadium.

With the series already lost, the hosts were playing for pride and also to avoid a series whitewash. Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bat first. Her side made the most of the conditions as the openers set up a record partnership of 189 runs.

However, once Pooja Vastrakar removed Healy, the wickets kept coming. Elysse Perry and Beth Mooney followed the captain's cue to make their way back to the dressing room, and Australia was suddenly four down at the score of 216 runs.

Regardless, a 20-year-old rookie, Phoebe Litchfield, held one end of the crease to slam a magnificent century. She single-handedly managed to keep the scoreboard ticking before Indian veteran Deepti Sharma knocked her out.

On the final delivery of the 40th over, Phoebe attempted a premeditated slog sweep but couldn't reach the ball as the leading edge off the toe end of the bat flew straight to Harmanpreet Kaur at short cover.

The Indian captain completed a regulation catch to mark the end of Litchfield's resilient knock.

However, the dismissal was extra special for Deepti Sharma as she unlocked the 100 ODI wickets milestone, with Litchfield being her 100th victim. Sharma is also the only fourth Indian to achieve the milestone in the women's 50-over format cricket.

Undoubtedly, Deepti Sharma's groundbreaking milestone will solidify her position as one of the greatest spinners in the history books of women's cricket.

However, the job is far from done. Despite a short collapse, Australia has managed to set up a mammoth target of 338 runs on board. It's a steep chase for the Indian women who are coming off from back-to-back nail-biting losses.

Regardless, with the pride of the team at stake, the batters are expected to come out all guns blazing in response to the gigantic total.
