India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, has backed star batter Virat Kohli to deliver a big performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa.

Kohli's recent form has been a concern. In the semi-final against England, he managed just 9 runs off 9 balls, continuing a disappointing tournament run where he has scored only 75 runs in seven innings.

Dravid Confident of Kohli firing in the final

Despite Kohli's struggles with the bat, Rahul Dravid remains optimistic, echoing skipper Rohit Sharma’s sentiment that "there is a big one coming up" from Kohli.

Rahul Dravid told Star Sports and praised Kohli's intent, using a six he hit in the semi-final as an example.

"With Virat, playing high-risk cricket can sometimes backfire. He struck a good six today to set the tone, but unfortunately, the ball seemed a bit more. However, I love his intent and the way he’s approaching the innings. It sets a great example for the team to see him willing to take those risks."

Dravid believes that Kohli's aggressive approach, aiming to capitalize on powerplay restrictions, is crucial despite its risks.

"And you know, for some reason, I don't want to jinx it but I think there's a big one coming up. I'm just loving his attitude and that he's committing himself on the field - I think he deserves it."

The T20 World Cup 2024 final also marks a significant moment for Dravid himself, as it represents his last chance to lift a World Cup trophy in his illustrious career.

India’s focus now shifts to the final against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, known for being more favorable to batters. With Dravid and Rohit's confidence in Kohli, fans hope he will rise to the occasion and play a match-winning knock.

India secured their spot in the final with a 68-run victory over England, with standout performances from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and the spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.
