Mohammad Hafeez took to 'X' to congratulate the Afghanistan team, stating,

"Hats off to @ACBofficials putting up the most incredible performances in this @T20WorldCup 2024. Undoubtedly 2nd best white ball cricket team in South Asia. U all surely entertained fans around the globe with ur skills & commitment to represent ur country. Keep ur head up & should feel proud of the journey u all had. Kudos @rashidkhan_19 @RGurbaz_21 @fazalfarooqi10."

In the group stage, Afghanistan defeated New Zealand and stunned Australia in the Super 8 contest. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zardan stood out as Afghanistan’s best batters, forming several match-winning partnerships.

On the bowling front, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen Ul Haq, and Rashid Khan were among the top wicket-takers.

Afghanistan's journey ended after their loss to South Africa in the semi-final at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. Despite this, the team’s campaign was a source of pride, showcasing their batting and bowling prowess throughout the tournament.

Afghanistan was dominant in the league stage, losing only one game. They defeated New Zealand to advance to the Super 8 stage, where they further excelled. After a loss to India, they bounced back, defeating Australia by 20 runs and then Bangladesh to secure a semi-final spot.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz emerged as the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup 2024 with 281 runs in 8 innings. Fazalhaq Farooqi topped the wicket charts with 17 wickets, while Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq contributed significantly with 14 and 13 wickets, respectively.

Hafeez’s praise for Afghanistan also included a subtle dig at the Pakistan team, which was eliminated in the league stage.

By calling Afghanistan the "second-best white ball cricket team in South Asia," Hafeez hinted at Pakistan’s poor performance compared to Afghanistan's impressive run in the tournament.
