BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah has clearly stated that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two senior members of the Indian cricket team won't participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy tournament.

There were speculations that both the experienced cricketers will play the domestic competition to get ready for the Bangladesh challenge, but those rumours were quashed by Jay Shah, who mentioned that players are humans, and not servants.

He further asserted that there is no point of increasing their workload, and this may also cause injury at the wrong time.

"It doesn't make sense to increase Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's workload by asking them to play domestic cricket. There's a risk of getting injured, we must treat our players respectfully and not like servants," Jay Shah said to TOI.

Apart from Rohit, and Kohli, several other Indian cricketers, will take part in the Duleep Trophy, to get prepared for the upcoming series. The captains of the four teams in the tournament have been decided.

Shubman Gill will lead Team A, whereas, Abhimanyu Easwaran will be the leader of the Team B. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the CSK skipper will be in charge of Team C, while Shreyas Iyer will captain Team D.

The Duleep Trophy 2024 will take place from September 5 in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) and Bengaluru.
