Raina Followed MS Dhoni On 15th August 2020 As Ode To Their Friendship

Former India skipper MS Dhoni and star batter Suresh Raina are known for their great camaraderie. The two former India stars have also starred for CSK and have played a lot of cricket together. 

They share a great bond and made it to the news when they announced their retirement on the same day. Thala shocked the world when he, unexpectedly, bid adieu to the game on August 15 2020. 

A few hours later, Raina too made it to the papers after he too announced his retirement. 

Raina, in his autobiography, spoke about his friendship with the former Indian captain and stated that it all began at the  2005 Duleep Trophy. 

Raina was left impressed by  Dhoni's confidence, self-reliance and aggressive style of playing. After that, both of them were seen together in the camp organised in Bangalore for India's senior team. With time, their friendship grew so much that they even started sharing a room.

Raina Explains Reason Behind Announcing Retirement On Same Day

Meanwhile, Raina also explained the reason behind him and Dhoni announcing retirement on the same day.

"We had already decided to retire on 15 August. Dhoni's jersey number is 7, my jersey number is 3. Both of them together make 73 and on 15 August 2020, India completed 73 years of independence. According to me, there could not have been a better day than that for retirement," remarked Raina. 

At present, Raina has shifted to the broadcasting side of the game, while Thala is still eyeing to feature in IPL 2025.
