In a bid to regain his place in the national team, India leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, is all set to play for Northamptonshire for their final Royal London ODI Cup match.

Apart from the ODI game, Chahal will also participate in the County Championship and will play the five remaining fixtures for the side.

The club said in a statement that Chahal will join the squad on Wednesday for their next game against Kent, and will then play the remaining first-class matches for their team.

The Northamptonshire head coach feels that the Indian spinner will provide more depth and variety in their attack.

"Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills," he said. "His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack."

This is not the first time that Chahal will play in the English county circuit. He also played for Kent in the 2023 season and picked up 9 wickets in 2 matches.

The 34-year-old has been out of the Indian team for a while, and will be eyeing a strong performance in the upcoming matches to make his India comeback possible.

He was included in the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, but did not get a chance as India preferred other spinners.
