The latest ICC rankings have been revealed, with Rohit Sharma going past his opening partner, Shubman Gill to become the new number 2 ranked batter in ODIs.

Since 2023, Rohit has been in stupendous form, first shown in the World Cup 2023, and continued the same aggressive template in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka.

He is etching closer to dethrone Babar Azam at the top of the rankings. With Rohit rising, there is another Indian player, who had a poor outing against Sri Lanka, and could face a downgrade in the rankings. We are talking about Virat Kohli.

Tector to dethrone Virat Kohli in rankings?

The former India captain, who was adjudged the Player of the Match in the T20 World Cup final, failed to decode Sri Lanka's spinners, and was trapped lbw in all three games. He had a phenomenal ODI year in 2023, but failed to replicate it in this series.

In the latest rankings, he is tied with Irish batter, Harry Tector at the 4th spot. Both the batters have the same points - 746, but Tector now possesses great opportunity to leapfrog Kohli, and possibly Gill as well.

The Indian number 3 batter, Kohli will not play any ODIs in 2024. His next ODI assignment will be against England, which takes place next year. However, Tector's Ireland will play 3 ODIs against South Africa, in October, and it provides a great opportunity for the Irish superstar to go ahead in the rankings.

If he plays well in the 3-game series, he'll cross Kohli and possibly Gill as well to become the number 3 ranked batter.

The Ireland Vs South Africa ODIs takes place in Abu Dhabi.
