Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, is going through a torrid time both on and off the field. However, his fans have not stopped showing their love and affection for the No.1 ranked ODI batter.

A recent video shows the contrasting emotions of all his fans, who have gathered near the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 venue and are loudly and passionately heard chanting 'Babar, Babar' as he walks right past them.  The video on X (formerly known as Twitter) showcased the massive crowds present before Babar Azam's practice session for the Stallions, which was ahead of their opening game against the Lions at Faisalabad.

The Champions One-Day Cup 2024 is a domestic limited-overs List A tournament in Pakistan between five teams organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This year, the tournament will begin on September 13.

Babar Azam's captaincy under threat

Amid a series of failures, recent reports from the centre suggest that Babar Azam is likely to be sacked as Pakistan's white-ball captain. In his place, the PCB is expected to announce a new leader soon.

During the 2023 ODI World Cup, Pakistan captain Babar Azam faced intense public scrutiny and humiliation after the team's premature exit from the tournament. Upon his return, captain Babar Azam took responsibility for the setback and the team's shocking exit in the group stage and tendered his resignation from the role across all formats.

Then, Shaheen Shah Afridi took over the role as the next skipper of the Men In Green; however, he, too, failed to show results. As a result, Babar Azam was reinstated as the captain yet again ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

But things took a serious turn as Pakistan exited the tournament after suffering an unexpected loss to the USA and then later on to Rohit Sharma's India. This was the worst exit since their team's inception, and it was the first time at an ICC event that Pakistan failed to qualify for the group stage.

After Pakistan get thrashed by Bangladesh; Babar loses spot in ICC rankings

Under Shan Masood's leadership, Pakistan faced its first-ever Test defeat against Bangladesh, as Najmul Hossain Shanto and Co. scripted history by whitewashing them in a two-match Test series at Rawalpindi.

During this time, Babar's criticism worsened, as he lost his place in the top 10 ICC Test batters' rankings following his horrific run against Bangladesh.
