In a significant development, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal have reacted to the horrific stampede that shook the cricketing world in the aftermath of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's historic IPL 2025 triumph. The tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, with several people getting killed during the chaotic victory celebrations of the much-loved IPL franchise in Bengaluru.

BCCI And IPL Officials React To Bengaluru Stampede Incident

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Mr Devajit Saikia stated that the cricketing body had no role in deciding and arranging such a victory parade following RCB's clinical win over Punjab Kings in the final.

According to him, the BCCI has no accountability once the IPL is over. Therefore, as he emphasised, better coordination between the franchise and the local authorities could've helped them avoid the mishap.

“Once the IPL final is over and after the presentation, BCCI has no role to play on what the franchise and the team go and do on their home ground. (RCB) didn’t have to inform us or take our permission, and the BCCI doesn’t have to monitor them either. While organising this kind of event, they should properly coordinate with local law enforcement authorities so that nothing untoward happens," Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying by Express Sports.

On the other hand, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal revealed that the governing council wasn't informed about any victory parade or celebrations in Bengaluru after RCB's IPL final triumph.

However, he also stated that the RCB officials were also unaware of the situation outside the stadium where people had gathered in large numbers, causing the fatal stampede. He echoed the BCCI secretary's words, saying the state government should've handled the crowd in a more efficient manner.

“We had no knowledge of any victory parade or celebrations planned in Bengaluru. We had no idea who organised it and how so many fans came there. The RCB management also had no idea what was happening outside because they were inside the stadium. As soon as we got to know, we spoke to RCB officials, and they informed us that they were winding up the celebrations. I am sure the state government and local administration would also take note of this event,” Arun Dhumal said.
