Mumbai Indians registered a rare failure on Sunday night, as Punjab Kings crushed them by five wickets in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025. Led by Hardik Pandya, MI failed to qualify for yet another IPL final, with Shreyas Iyer's magnificent knock leading to their exit from the competition.

Thus, as their IPL 2025 campaign is now officially over, let's analyse and find out which players they might release ahead of the next season.

1. Robin Minz

(Robin Minz's poor numbers in IPL 2025)

  • Young wicketkeeper-batter Robin Minz had a forgettable time with the bat in IPL 2025. Despite MI trusting his abilities in the initial matches, Minz failed to fire in the tournament, managing only six runs across two outings at a horrible strike rate of 40.
  • As a result, the Jharkhand batter faced the axe and didn't represent the five-time champions in their subsequent matches. Considering MI have a formidable batting order, they might release the southpaw and add a brighter talent to their setup for the next season.

2. Satyanarayana Raju

  • Young Indian pacer Satyanarayana Raju was purchased by Mumbai Indians at INR 30 lakhs. However, the right-arm pacer couldn't live up to the hype, managing a solitary wicket across two outings.
  • He failed to restrict the flow of runs, as the batters hammered him to all parts of the ground, resulting in a horrendous economy of 13.25.
  • With the likes of Deepak Chahar, Ashwani Kumar, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah forming MI's pace attack, the five-time champions might decide to release Raju from their squad.

3. Reece Topley

(Reece Topley's IPL 2025 stats)

  • English speedster Reece Topley warmed the bench for a majority portion of the IPL 2025. Although he got to play the all-important Qualifier 2, Topley went wicketless while conceding 40 runs in his three-over spell.
  • He has Trent Boult as his direct competitor and his injury-prone body makes the case tougher for his retention. Thus, Topley, who was sold to MI at a price of INR 75 lakhs, could find a place among the released names ahead of the next season.

4. Mujeeb Ur Rahman

(Mujeeb Ur Rahman's IPL 2025 stats)

  • Experienced Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman joined Mumbai Indians as a replacement for Allah Muhammad Ghazanfar, who was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
  • However, the finger spinner, who initially went unsold in last year's mega auction, could scalp a single wicket on his first and last outing for the franchise this season.
  • He went for 28 runs in his two overs, registering an economy rate of 14. He eventually lost his place from the side, with MI preferring Karn Sharma and Vignesh Puthur as their frontline spinners alongside Mitchell Santner.
  • Thus, Mujeeb's ordinary outing might force MI to release him to the auction pool before the next season.
