Bangladesh assistant head coach Mohammad Salahuddin has tipped young openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon to make a major breakthrough in international cricket. Salahuddin believes they have the talent, mindset, and chemistry to become a dominant force at the top of the order.
After India postponed its white-ball series against Bangladesh, the Tigers invited the Netherlands for a 3-game T20I series beginning on August 30 at Sylhet. The series will be treated as a much-needed warm-up ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
Bangladesh Keen On Nurturing Youth For Asia Cup
Ahead of the T20I series against the Netherlands, Bangladesh’s assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin has urged the fans to keep an eye on the young opening duo Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon.
Talking to Cricbuzz, the coach opined that an early taste of success has given them the confidence to play fearless cricket and take calculated risks, something he feels Bangladesh needs in its white-ball opening partnerships.
"When I came in the team, I tried to find out the main problems. As our experienced players left, we needed a good opening stand to proceed. Emon and Tamim have been playing together since under-19s. Most importantly, they had the taste of winning a World Cup. So, they can play fearless cricket, they can play shots. The courage and shots needed to play in under-19s is present in them," Salahuddin said.
Both Tanzid and Emon played together in U19, where they had crucial roles in Bangladesh’s historic ICC U19 World Cup victory, still the country’s only global cricket trophy.
And according to the coach, the duo have already shown signs of improvement, such as the 110-run partnership vs Pakistan in an away T20I series.
"Maybe they are not matured enough yet. Their understanding is increasing and it is visible. I think, after some time, they themselves will understand what should be done. They will develop it, and the technical matters as well. The game understanding, handling the situation and the mutual understanding have been growing. They both are dominating characters with attitudes, which is very important at this level of cricket. If they can grow a better mutual understanding, we will get a good opening partnership in future," he added.
Hence, with the T20I squad settled under the captaincy of Litton Das and the infusion of youth, the Tigers are confident of a successful run in the Asia Cup.
Fitness Crisis Brewing In Bangladesh Cricket
According to Cricbuzz, several Bangladesh cricketers struggled in the new 1600-metre fitness test at the National Stadium, with pacer Nahid Rana emerging as the standout performer. Rana completed the run in 5 minutes 31 seconds, the fastest among 22 participants.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim followed in the first batch, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib led the second group. Some players, including Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, took nearly eight minutes, falling short of expectations.
The test replaces the previous Yo-Yo and beep tests under strength and conditioning coach Nathan Kiely. The fitness camp precedes skill training for the Netherlands T20I series and the Asia Cup.
