Babar Azam is going through a lean path with his bat. His poor performance has become a big concern for the Pakistan cricket team. Recently, former Pakistan cricket legend, Zaheer Abbas, shared his opinion, making a bold statement about Babar.

Pakistan’s white ball captain has been facing criticism due to his poor performances, especially in the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh. His lack of runs in that series caused him to drop out of the top ten in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. He only managed to score 64 runs in four innings.

The last time Babar had a notable score in red-ball cricket was back in 2022, when he made a massive 161 against New Zealand. But since then, he has been struggling, with his best score being just 39 runs in 16 innings, which came against Sri Lanka in July 2023.

While appearing on a sports talk show in the UAE, Zaheer Abbas didn’t hold back his thoughts on Babar’s form. He suggested that Babar should be dropped from the team if he continues to underperform.

"Babar Azam should be dropped from the team," Abbas said at the event. "If he's not scoring runs, because if he's our main batsman and he's out of form, he should be out of the team."  he said.

Babar Azam's Poor Form In Pakistan Champions Cup

Despite his struggles in international matches, Babar did show some form in the domestic Champions Cup. He ended the tournament as the fourth-highest run-scorer, making 230 runs in four matches, including an unbeaten 104.

What’s Next For Babar Azam?

Despite the criticism, Pakistan’s management has backed Babar Azam for the upcoming Test series against England, starting on October 7 in Multan. This series is crucial for Pakistan, as they have lost their last 10 Test matches. Babar now has the chance to turn things around and make an impact in the upcoming series.
