Rohit Sharma and his team delivered a clinical performance to defeat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test match at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, on Tuesday, completing a 2-0 series sweep.

Despite significant weather disruptions, which saw more than two days of play lost to rain, India managed to secure a decisive result, further cementing their dominance in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

With this win, India secured another crucial 12 points in the WTC points table, taking their total to 98 points and further solidifying their hold on the top position.

India's Commanding Performance Vs Bangladesh In Second Test

India’s bowlers set the foundation for the victory by dismissing Bangladesh for 233 in their first innings. In response, India displayed remarkable aggression with the bat, blazing to a quick lead, driven by a record-breaking opening stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma’s leadership was vital throughout the series, and his aggressive tactics in the match's final stages ensured that India turned the tide despite time being lost to rain.

With this series victory, India strengthened their position at the top of the WTC points table. India now have eight wins in 11 Test matches in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, with a commanding win percentage of 74.24%.

This latest victory has stretched India's lead over second-placed Australia, who have also registered eight wins but have played one more match than India in the ongoing cycle. The win puts India in prime position to book a place in the World Test Championship final.

Bangladesh Slip In Rankings After Defeat In Kanpur Test

Bangladesh, on the other hand, saw a decline in their WTC standing following the defeat. After suffering their fifth loss in eight matches, Bangladesh dropped two positions in the table, moving from fifth place to seventh.

Bangladesh's form in the WTC 2023-25 cycle has been inconsistent, and this series loss against India further underscores the challenges they face in competing with the top teams.

With only two wins so far, Bangladesh will need to regroup and work on their strategies if they hope to improve their standings in the upcoming matches.
