Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan dropped a harsh take on Babar Azam, saying that the Pakistan captain is not good enough to be in a top team like Australia, India, England or even West Indies.

Babar Azam, who reclaimed his white ball captaincy five months after his resignation, once again failed to produce results on the big stage.

Pakistan failed for the fifth time in ICC events under Babar’s leadership, and things hit a new low in the 2024 T20 World Cup as the men in green couldn’t even advance to the Super 8 stage.

Moreover, with Babar Azam’s captaincy once again on the line following a shocking T20 World Cup early exit, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan took a sharp dig on Babar's status in world cricket as a prominent batter.

While talking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan said Babar Azam is an exceptional player with the bat. However, he is not one of the best ones to exist is world cricket. Vaughan argued that Babar can never be a part of top thriving nation like Australia, India, England or even West Indies solely on the basis of his stats in T20 cricket.

It’s largely because of the lack of intent required to excel in modern-day cricket. Babar's approach as an opener has been timid and defensive. And that kind of intent can never sustain in this day and age.

Needless to say, Pakistan has learned their lesson the hard way. As they head back home following their final group game against Ireland, the local fans, media and even the board (PCB) will come down all guns blazing on the Babar Azam led squad. Major changes are expected as PCB chairman announced a full fledged analysis.

While Babar Azam stands at risk of losing his captaincy for the second time, a few senior members could also lose their spot on the national team.
