Shaheen Upset, Rizwan Aspired For Captaincy After Babar Pakistan's Sorrow Exit From T20 WC

Pakistan was eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup after the match between USA and Ireland was washed out. Pakistan needed Ireland to defeat USA to stay in contention. Following their exit, reports have surfaced suggesting internal factionalism among the Pakistan's top players.

Pakistan lost their initial two matches in the T20 World Cup against USA and India. Despite a win over Canada, Pakistan failed to advance in the tournament.

Recent reports indicate that Babar Azam faced challenges in uniting the team after taking over the captaincy from Shaheen Afridi. Shaheen Afridi was reportedly disappointed and felt unsupported by Babar during crucial moments.

Additionally, Mohammad Rizwan was said to be disappointed for not being considered for the captaincy role.

"There are three groups in the team, one led by Babar Azam, the second one by Shaheen Shaheen Afridi and the third one by Muhammad Rizwan. Add to this mix the return of seniors like Muhammad Aamir and Imad Wasim and the recipe was ready for a World Cup disaster," a source close to team said.

After Pakistan's poor performance in the ODI World Cup, Babar Azam was replaced by Shaheen Afridi as the captain of the T20 team.

Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan in only one series against New Zealand, which they lost 4-1. Earlier this year, Babar Azam returned as the captain.

It is said that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi already knew about the situation.

"Naqvi held two meetings with all the players in private and gave them pep talks asking them to put their issues aside and focus on winning the World Cup and he would remove all misgivings in the team later on but apparently things didn't work out," the source added.

Tough times lie ahead for Pakistan. In the coming days, a clearer picture of the issues will emerge, and the future of Babar Azam as Pakistan's captain will be under scrutiny.
