Litton Das for Bangladesh (Source:@CricketTimesHQ/X.com)
Litton Das is the captain of Bangladesh in T20Is now and is set to lead his country in the Asia Cup 2025. The Bangla Tigers have played some good cricket in recent times, and there are expectations that they will do well under Litton Das' leadership.
Ex-Indian Opener Feels Bangladesh Will Be Eliminated In Super Four
However, Aakash Chopra, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, did not rate Bangladesh highly. He stated that Bangladesh used to punch above their weight earlier and even beat India in the 2007 World Cup. The former Indian cricketer, though, asked Bangladesh to step up and present themselves as contenders of the trophy and not just participants.
Chopra added that the opportunities are endless for Bangladesh, but reckoned that they would not qualify in the Super Four. The Ex-Indian opener stated that Afghanistan and Sri Lanka would qualify over Bangladesh.
“They used to punch above their weight. They knocked us out in 2007. They are participants in world tournaments, but are not going into them as contenders, and this is what they want to do now. So the opportunities are endless, but to say the truth, their job is cut out, even though it would be wrong to rule out any team in T20s. I feel they will get stuck. Afghanistan and Sri Lanka might actually qualify from that group. So Bangladesh’s story might end in the league stage, Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Aakash Chopra Highlights Bangladesh's Over-Dependence On Their Captain
Aakash Chopra also mentioned that Bangladesh seem heavily dependent on Litton Das, but he has been an underachiever over the years. He called Litton Das a quality player but added that Bangladesh are too reliant on him and they tend to choke in big moments.
“In weakness, they have an overdependence on Litton Das. Litton Das is a quality player, but he is an underachiever. He hasn’t done as well as the ability he has. He is the captain at the moment, so the team will definitely look towards him, but they look towards him too much. They have a tendency of choking in big moments.”
Thus, Aakash Chopra has clearly ruled out Bangladesh's chance of qualifying for the Super Four of Asia Cup 2025. Bangladesh fans, though, would be hoping that their players prove him wrong and deliver some strong performances in the continental tournament.
