Rohit Sharma is known as one of the finest thinkers and leaders Indian cricket has ever seen. Besides leading from the front, Rohit's knack for backing youngsters and standing by his troops during hardships makes him an influential captain. As the veteran cricketer prepares for the Australia tour, his former Mumbai Indians teammate, Rahul Chahar, has shared an unknown incident, signifying Rohit's greatness as a leader.
Rahul Chahar Remembers The Day When Rohit Backed Him In IPL
There was a time when Mumbai Indians used to be the most formidable team in the Indian Premier League. While Rohit and Quinton de Kock formed their power-packed batting unit along with the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Chahar played as their frontline spinner before switching to Punjab Kings.
During an exclusive chat with Filmygyan, Chahar recalled an instance when Rohit boosted his morale with a heartwarming gesture. According to the wrist spinner, he had an off day, conceding 30 runs off two overs. However, despite his horrible form, MI's then-captain Rohit Sharma kept his cool and encouraged him with magical words.
"There is one incident I can never forget in life. It was our semifinal against Delhi in IPL. I had gone for around 30 runs in 2 overs & I was walking with my head down. Rohit bhaiya held my hand & told, 'Walk ahead, you lead the team," Chahar told Filmygyan.
As Chahar described, it was a knockout game and therefore, his spell held significant importance for Mumbai Indians. In such a scenario, Rohit's gesture highlights his leadership attributes, shedding light on his ability to maximise the potential of youngsters with inspirational words.
Talking about Chahar, the right-arm spinner's IPL career went downhill after he shifted his base from Mumbai Indians. He could play a single game in the IPL this year, and it will be interesting to see if the Sunrisers retain him ahead of the next season.
