Narayan Jagadeesan after century in Duleep Trophy (Source:PTI)
Narayan Jagadeesan has slammed a century on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy semifinal between North Zone and South Zone. He has been a consistent run-scorer in the domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu and now has continued that good run of form in the all-important match against North Zone.
Narayan Jagadeesan Takes South Zone To A Strong Position In Duleep Trophy Semifinal
South Zone are batting first, and Jagadeesan opened the batting alongside Tanmay Agarwal. They stitched together a 103-run opening stand, and even though Tanmay lost his wicket, Jagadeesan continued his merry ways against the North Zone bowling attack led by Anshul Kamboj.
The right-handed batter scored his runs at a brisk rate and got good support from Devdutt Padikkal. The Karnataka batter scored 57 off 71 balls, but he too could not convert his start. Jagadeesan, though, made sure that he kept going and is now batting on 121 in the final session with 11 fours and two sixes. He has scored around 45 percent of his runs in boundaries and has looked class apart so far. He scored 49 runs through covers, where he hit five boundaries, while he scored his runs in all parts of the ground.
Narayan Jagadeesan Strengthens His Position As Backup Keeper
The TN cricketer who has played for CSK in past is now on the national selection radar, and this performance could help him strengthen his case. Jagadeesan was also named as Rishabh Pant's replacement before the Oval Test against England recently. He was preferred over Ishan Kishan, who has done well in India colours, which shows that the batter's consistency at the domestic level is getting noticed.
Overall, Narayan Jagadeesan has an average of over 47 in first-class cricket and has been playing red-ball cricket for the last nine years. He has a good record in List A cricket too, and can be a good back-up for India in red-ball format for Rishabh Pant.
