Suryakumar Yadav's ability to take risks at crucial junctures of the game like using Rinku Singh in the penultimate over and himself in the final one won India the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka, said all-rounder Washington Sundar.

How India won the 3rd T20I

Heading into the third T20I, India already had an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. However, the Indian batting collapsed like a pack of cards and on a slow-sluggish surfaced, were restricted to 137.

However, Sri Lanka made a mess of an easy chase and despite a solid start, they too, were stopped at 137/8, taking the game to the Super Over. The credit should be given to captain Suryakumar for taking India to victory out of nowhere. He played a punt by bowling Rinku Singh in the penultimate over, and when the pressure was at the highest, he delivered the goods with the ball in the last over.

Washi calls Surya 'Big Hearted' leader

Post match, all-rounder Washington Sundar applauded SKY's leadership abilities and called him an 'amazing leader.'

“Honestly, it's amazing of him, amazing of his leadership skills to be honest because (with) 12 balls (left and) 12 (runs) to win and for him to bring Rinku (on), especially when Kushal Perera is batting, and Rinku got him out and Surya (then) himself came in the last over and won the game for us,” Sundar told the media after the match.

“We all know he has a big heart when he goes out there to bat but also he has a big heart in terms of leadership as well. All the credits to him and (it was) amazing of him.”

Suryakumar led from the front in the series, not only with the bat, but also with the ball. For his performance, Surya was awarded the Player of the Series.
