The T20I series is done and dusted and the new era of Indian cricket started with a series whitewash of the Sri Lankan side.

Team India had appointed a new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, and he led from the front in his first major assignment as India comprehensively won the series, with just minor hiccups.

Now the focus shifts towards the 50-over format, as Rohit Sharma returns as the leader, alongside senior players like Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.

The 3-match ODI series provides a perfect platform for Gautam Gambhir and his team to test the bench strength ahead of the much anticipated Champions Tarophy, taking place in February 2025.

Key highlights from India's training session ahead of ODIs

The ODI members of the squad arrived in Sri Lanka, couple of days earlier, and had their first training session yesterday. Here are some of the key pointers from the intense session.

As reported by senior journalist, Vimal Kumar, Virat Kohli had an intense training session, and the former skipper looked fresh after a month-long break from cricket. Kohli looked in rhythm and after 15 minutes of batting practice, he gave a go at playing reverse sweeps.

One reason is that the Sri Lankan pitches tend to spin and the hosts have quality spinners. As a result, Kohli is trying out different shots.

Also, the India ODI captain, Rohit worked closely with Shreyas Iyer during the nets. As per Vimal Kumar, Rohit was trying to improve Iyer's pull shot, something with which the Indian middle-order batter has struggled with. Rohit, too, looked in great touch during the net sessions.

Moreover, Harshit Rana, who could make his debut in the series, bowled at Kohli, and the senior pro guided him about what lines and lengths to bowl on Sri Lankan pitches.
