Cricket is much more than just achievements, glory, and milestones, as a player sacrificed much more just to hold the nation’s head high. After India Women lifted their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup trophy, fans saw the bright side of it, but Amanjot Kaur’s silent sacrifice shouldn’t go unnoticed.
As Amanjot was giving her best in the final game, her grandmother suffered a heart attack. Yet, her family chose strength over sorrow, keeping it away from her so she could chase the nation’s dream without distraction.
Family shelters the storm, so Amanjot can chase glory
After a series of heartbreaks, the India Women’s side finally reached the silver lining as they lifted their first-ever Women’s World Cup Trophy last night. As the nations held the entire squad, Amanjot Kaur’s contribution can never be overlooked. From hitting the winning boundary in the semifinal to taking the crucial catch of Laura Wolvaardt in the final, the youngster delivered whenever India needed her.
As the star was batting hard in the 22 yards, her family was also battling with a crucial situation as Amanjot’s grandmother suffered a heart attack. While the nation needed the player, her family decided to keep the news away from her so that she could concentrate on the crucial fixture.
After the India Women secured the historic triumph, Amanjot Kaur’s father, Bhupinder Singh, shared the incident while speaking to The Indian Express. He said, “My mother Bhagwanti has been Amanjot’s pillar of strength since the day she started playing cricket outside on the street and the park at our Phase 5 residence in Mohali. While I would be at my carpentry shop at Balongi, she would make sure to sit outside the home or at the park to oversee Amanjot playing with the boys as well as other girls.”
“After she suffered a heart attack last month, we did not tell Amanjot about it, and the last few days have seen us spending time in hospitals for her treatment. The World Cup win has surely come as a balm in these tense times for us,” he added.
Amanjot’s juggling catch brings India to the brink of glory
Throughout the Women’s World Cup, Amanjot Kaur remained India’s secret weapon as she contributed whenever India needed a warrior. As the world is celebrating Team India’s triumph, Amanjot remained the dash of luck whose mindful catch became a turning point of the game.
After some early setbacks, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt smashed a thrilling century, and the Proteas got a massive boost. After Deepti Sharma came to bowl the 42nd over, she bowled a beautiful delivery, and the Protea skipper went for a sweep.
As the ball soared toward mid-wicket, Amanjot sprinted left and, after a brief juggle, clutched a stunning catch. After Wolvaardt walked away on 101, Team India unlocked a momentum.
