The India women's cricket team achieved something that had eluded them for 47 years, as players and fans alike were overwhelmed with joy after the historic feat. Popular Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor joined the flood of congratulatory messages pouring in for the Women in Blue.

Shraddha Kapoor penned a heartfelt note for the team after their massive 52-run victory over South Africa Women at the D.Y. Patil Stadium.

Referring to the 1983 World Cup, Kapoor thanked the team for allowing her generation to relive the long-awaited feeling of a World Cup triumph.

"For decades, sirf parents se sunte the what 1983 felt like. Humein humara ye wala moment dene ke liye thank you girls. This is for generations," Shraddha wrote on her Instagram story with a picture of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana hugging each other and posing for a photo.

Shraddha’s message echoed the memories of 1983, when Kapil Dev and his men stunned the world by defeating the mighty West Indies at Lord’s to lift India’s first-ever World Cup trophy.

The Bachchan's pour in tribute

Not just Shraddha Kapoor, but several other celebrities, including Abhishek Bachchan and his father, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, also took to social media to congratulate the Indian women’s team. 

"COME ONNNN!!!! INDIAAAAA!!! world champions. Well done ladies." wrote Abhishek Bachchan. 

"T 5552 - जीत गये !!! India Women Cricket .. WORLD CHAMPIONS !! So much pride you have brought for us all .. CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS !!!!" Amitabh wrote on his Twitter handle.

As the victory continued to sink in for 1.4 billion Indians, celebrations carried on through the night, marking one of the most special moments in Indian cricket history with the India Women's team preparing for an all-format assignment Down Under starting from November 15.
