Saim Ayub in press conference (Source: @CallMeSheri1_)
Saim Ayub is considered as one of the brightest talents in Pakistan and is known for his aggressive approach. However, since coming back from injury, he has not been able to live upto his billing and struggled quite a lot in the Asia Cup 2025.
Now, in the first T20I against South Africa, he looked out of touch once again and scored 37 off 28 balls. Thus, there are talks that he is not playing the aggressive brand of cricket he is known for, and the same question was asked by a journalist in the post-match press conference.
Saim Ayub opens up about his approach to batting
Saim Ayub, though, denied any such assumptions about the intent in his batting. He questioned the journalist by asking how he can say with such confidence that he has lost the intent. He added that he accepts that he has not got the outcome that everyone desires in the last few matches, but he is trying his best.
He made it clear that he has not forgotten his intent and is trying to play the same way like he used to do earlier. The southpaw mentioned that one cannot play international cricket without intent and if it is not there, a player is finished.
"Aap itna confidence kaise rakh sakte hai ki mai apna intent bhul gaya. Bilkul, outcome nahi aa raha hai. Uss tarike se nahi aaya pichle kuch matches me. Lekin woh past hogaya aur mere haath me jo hai woh mai kar raha hu. Intent bilkul nahi bhula aur usse tarah khelne ke koshish karr raha hu. Intent ke bina international cricket nahi hai, agar aap opposition ko dominate nahi kar sakte toh, waha pe aap finished hai, aap kuch nahi kar sakte phir".
Thus, Saim Ayub seems confident of his abilities and it would be interesting to see how he goes about his business in the second match.
