Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently talked about three of India's most successful captains in modern cricket: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. Each one of them has contributed something unique to the team, thereby taking Indian cricket to new levels across different formats.

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have their names etched as two of the most successful captains in ICC events. That was, in fact, the cold composure of Dhoni that led to incisive decision-making, guiding India through to win both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Rohit did the same to lead the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Under Virat Kohli's leadership, the Test team was transformed into one that rose from a lowly seventh position in the rankings to the top, becoming formidable overseas as well.

Ashwin, speaking about these different types of leadership styles, was all praise for each of the captains he had played under and said:

"2-3 things are nice about Rohit's captaincy. He always keeps the environment of the team light. He makes an effort to keep it light. And he stays very balanced and tactically he is strong. Both Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on the tactics," Ashwin revealed in a conversation with Vimal Kumar.

Ashwin went ahead and praised Rohit's way of selecting a team and then handling it: "The player Rohit picks in the XI, he supports him 100%". And the way Rohit works along with the analytics team to get that player through was one of the main ways in which this team has done their planning and strategizing.

Ashwin On Mission Bangladesh Next

Ashwin's next assignment will be the two-Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19. Bangladesh, after their historic Test victory against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, are likely to give a run for their money to India.
