The Indian Premier League (IPL), a spectacle of power-hitting and high-octane drama, has redefined the art of entertainment in cricket. With packed stadiums and millions glued to their screens, boundaries have become the heartbeat of this electrifying league.
Whether it’s a glittering drive through the covers or a ferocious pull into the stands, each boundary only adds to the thrill. Over the past 18 years in the history of this elite tournament, certain batters have mastered the craft of hitting boundaries like no other. Here, we take a look at some players with the highest number of boundaries (fours and sixes combined) to their names in IPL history.
4. Rohit Sharma – 885
Former Mumbai Indians captain and legendary opening batter Rohit Sharma has clattered 885 boundaries in just his 256 IPL innings to date. One of the few cricketers in history to have taken part in every single IPL season so far, Sharma has bludgeoned 282 sixes to be ranked second among the leading six-hitters of the tournament behind just Chris Gayle. In terms of fours, the cricketer has tallied 603 of them to fall fourth on the all-time IPL list.
Rohit Sharma is also ranked third among the leading run-getters of the IPL with more than 6,500 runs; falling only behind the likes of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
3. David Warner – 899
Former Australian opener David Warner is undoubtedly the most successful overseas batter in IPL history by a landslide. In his 184-match IPL career, the legendary left-hander racked up 899 boundaries, including 663 fours and 236 maximums. Warner’s 663-four count marks the third highest in IPL history behind the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. Moreover, the champion Australian cricketer is also ranked sixth among the leading six-hitters in the tournament.
Up until the start of the IPL 2025 season, David Warner remains one of only four players in history to have tallied over 6,000 runs.
2. Shikhar Dhawan – 920
Former Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan remains one of only two cricketers in IPL history to have aggregated over 900 boundaries. While Dhawan has recorded 152 sixes in his 222-match IPL career up until his retirement, the legendary opener is leading the race in terms of fours, having struck 768 of them to remain the only IPL cricketer with more than 750 fours to his name.
Shikhar Dhawan is also one of the highest run-accumulators in the history of the IPL with 6,769 runs from 221 innings at a splendid batting average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 127.14.
1. Virat Kohli – 1,001
RCB zealot Virat Kohli has listed 721 fours in 257 innings to find himself ranked second among the leading four-hitters in IPL history. The legendary Indian cricketer has also launched 280 maximums to find himself behind just Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma to be ranked third in IPL’s six-hitting list. With an overall collection of 1,001 boundaries, Virat Kohli remains the only cricketer in history to have belted over 1,000 boundaries in his career.
Kohli’s astonishing boundary-count is quite reminiscent to his overall IPL tally, which is currently glittered with 8,190 runs from 257 innings, the highest among all IPL cricketers in its near two-decade long history.
