Virat Kohli, Indian cricketing stalwart and RCB icon, has scripted history by becoming the first player in the history of IPL to score 1000 boundaries. He achieved this feat after hitting 721 fours and 279 sixes in his vast IPL career.
Kohli is synonymous with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as he has been with the franchise since the inception of IPL in 2008. In the last 18 years, he has played over 250 IPL games and scripted many legendary records.
Moreover, during the recent IPL 2025 game between RCB and DC, King Kohli once again entered history books with a record number of boundaries.
Virat Kohli Breaches Magical Mark Of 1000 IPL Boundaries
As RCB faced DC in match No. 24 of the IPL 2025 season, Virat Kohli scored runs at a brisk pace in the powerplay. He hit 22 runs off 14 balls including 1 boundary and 2 sixes which helped him script a unique record for himself.
With a total of 721 fours and 279 sixes, Kohli has become the first player in the history of IPL to score 1000 boundaries.
This new milestone proves how long and how well Virat Kohli has played over the years. While many players have come and gone, he has stayed at the top, breaking records season after season.
RCB Three Down After Brisk Start
That being said, Kohli and Phil Salt wreaked havoc in the powerplay to bring up 64 runs for RCB in the first six overs.
However, they lost Salt to an unfortunate runout. He punched a ball against Axar Patel to the left of cover and took off for a quick single. But Kohli at the non-striker's end sent him back. As Salt turned around to return, he slipped, losing all momentum.
By the time he regained his balance, it was too late as Vipraj fired in a sharp throw, and Salt was caught well short of the crease.
A couple of overs later, RCB also lost Virat Kohli. A leg-break from Vipraj tempted Kohli into a drive. He reached out for it, but the ball dipped and turned just enough to force a miscue. Starc sprinted off from long-off to latch a sliding catch, leaving RCB 74/3.
