The Duleep Trophy 2024 seasoned opened up with a slew of sparkling young talents taking center-stage in Bengaluru and Anantapur. Numerous uncapped Indian cricketers shot themselves to prominence by putting remarkable performances for all competing teams.

Karnataka fast bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak bowled his heart out for India C, especially on the opening day of the second match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. The speedster bowled 12 overs in the first India D innings, and dismissed the likes of Indian internationals Shreyas Iyer and Devdutt Padikkal when the ball was still fresh and new. Equally frugal with the old ball, Vyshak got rid of Arshdeep Singh to bag astonishing figures of 3-19, dismantling India D for just 164 in the process.

The right-arm paceman picked up two more India D wickets in the second innings, dismissing both openers within the first three overs of his spell to claim a match-haul of 5-80 from 24 overs combined.

Rajasthan-based bowling all-rounder Manav Suthar bewildered Indian wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat in the opening day of the match between India C and India D at Anantapur. The India C left-arm spinner then claimed seven wickets in the second innings at the expense of just 49 runs from 19.1 overs. After India D reached a commanding 166-3, Suthar dismissed Devdutt Padikkal and Srikar Bharat in quick succession before mopping up their tail.

Suthar’s spell restricted India D to just 236 in the second innings, before he carved an unbeaten 19 in a tense run-chase to bring up the winning runs for India C. Notably, the 22-year-old cricketer also bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his all-round and match-winning efforts.

Tamil Nadu veteran Baba Indrajith punched out a majestic 72 for India C in the first innings of their opening Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India D. Batting at number five and facing the likes of Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, Indrajith lifted up his team from a precarious 43-4 to a four-run lead by reaching a 168-run first innings total.

The 30-year-old cricketer faced 149 deliveries in the process and dispatched nine of them for some regal boundaries. He even shared a fighting 54-run stand with Abishek Porel at one stage and another 51 runs with number 10 Anshul Kamboj. Indrajith’s first-innings knock helped India C set up a remarkable early advantage for themselves before they sealed a tense four-wicket win on Day 3.

KKR speed demon and IPL cult hero Harshit Rana wrecked India C top-order by removing both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan within his opening spell. The India D speedster claimed two more middle-order wickets later in the same innings, including the prized-scalp of a well-set Abishek Porel to snare figures of 4-33 in 13 overs. Rana also added crucial runs for India D with the bat alongside Axar Patel in the second innings, before his team eventually succumbed to a four-wicket defeat at Anantapur.

Mumbai’s first-class batting juggernaut Musheer Khan revived India B from 94-7 to a staggering 321 in the first innings of the opening Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India A. The 19-year-old plundered 181 runs from 373 deliveries and smeared 16 boundaries and five maximums in the process while batting at number three.

The innings marked Musheer’s third first-class ton and first since his prolific Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season for Mumbai. Fittingly, the youngster was declared the ‘Player of the Match’ after India B secured a huge 76-run win over Shubman Gill-led India A.
