The IPL 2025 has resumed after a break of few days, and in the 59th match of the season, Rajasthan Royals are up against Punjab Kings. Both the teams have made some changes to their line-up due to the unavailability of few players, and Mitchell Owen has got the chance to make his IPL debut.
Mitchell Owen's Rise From Tasmania To IPL
The 23-year-old South Australian all-rounder has taken big steps in his cricketing career. He grabbed limelight with a stunning century for Hobart Hurricanes in BBL 2024-25 final and impressed everyone with his consistency and power-hitting at the top of the order. He scored 452 runs in 11 matches at an average of 45 and strike-rate of over 200, and since then he has played in SA20 and PSL.
He has the experience of batting in the middle order in other formats, and Peshawar Zalmi used it during his 2025 stint. The aggressive nature of his batting has helped him gain popularity, and he is considered as the next big thing in Australian cricket. He has got his maiden call-up in IPL as a replacement of Glenn Maxwell, and along with the bat, Owen is a handy off-break bowler too.
Overall, in 35 T20s, he has scored 647 runs at an average of 24.88 at a strike-rate of 183.80 and has two centuries to his name. He has played first-class and List A cricket, and would be hoping to make a strong impression in his first IPL stint. Unlike, many Australian players, Mitchell Owen will be available for all the remaining games. Punjab Kings currently have 15 points in their kitty, and one more win would put them in a great position to grab a top-2 spot on the points table.
