Mustafizur Rahman unlikely to play against GT [Source: @Mustafiz90/X.com]
On 18 May, Delhi Capitals (DC) will face off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. DC is coming off a disrupted game against Punjab Kings (PBKS), which was halted due to India-Pakistan tensions and will be replayed later. On the other hand, GT defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets in a nail-biting finish.
Mustafizur Rahman's Availability In IPL 2025
Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh left-arm pacer, was signed by DC for ₹6 crore as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who left the tournament for personal reasons. Initially, there was some confusion because the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn’t know about Mustafizur’s IPL deal. However, the BCB later cleared things up and granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in DC’s remaining three league matches.
Will Mustafizur Rahman Play Today?
Although Mustafizur is now eligible to play, it's unlikely that he will be part of today's game against GT. The main reason is that he recently played for Bangladesh in a T20 International (T20I) in Sharjah, just a day before this match. Given the quick turnaround and travel, DC might decide to rest him.
DC will also be without Mitchell Starc, who played a key role in one of their recent victories. To compensate, the team might rely on Mustafizur in upcoming games, but not necessarily in today's fixture.
Currently, Delhi Capitals are in fifth place on the IPL 2025 points table, with 13 points from 11 matches and a net run rate of +0.362. They’ve secured six wins so far and will be looking to climb higher with a victory today.
