The IPL 2025 is all set to resume on May 17, but amidst the glamour of the league, the BCCI has also revealed the squad for India A games against England Lions. Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the side which includes many talented Indian cricketers and the visitors would play two matches, the first one from May 30 and second on June 6.

BCCI To Go With Domestic Veteran As Coach For India A Tour

Now, according to Gaurav Gupta, the senior assistant editor of TOI has revealed that Hrishikesh Kanitkar will be the head coach for India A on the tour of England. Hrishikesh Kanitkar is the Maharashtra cricket veteran who has played two Tests and 34 ODIs for India and has rich coaching experience.

Who Is Hrishikesh Kanitkar?

Hrishikesh Kanitkar was the coach of Indian Women team when they won Gold Medal in Asian Games 2022. In 2011, he was also appointed as the assistant coach of Kochi Tuskers Kerala but left the job even before the start of the season. He also coached Goa and Tamil Nadu state team.

Hrishikesh Kanitkar was a left-handed middle order batter and a handy off-spinner. He is known for his famous match-winning boundary in a tense run-chase against Pakistan during the Independence Cup Final 1998. 

He played domestic cricket for Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The southpaw scored 10400 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 52 and hit 33 centuries in his illustrious career. He was also a celebrated Ranji Trophy winning captain and thus, BCCI has trusted him to coach a star-studded India A team on the difficult tour of England.

The head coach of the senior team, Gautam Gambhir is likely to travel with the main squad to England. After two games against England Lions, India A will play the final game against the senior Indian team.
