In what has come as a big blow to team India’s ambitions, India’s wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third Test against England. He had earlier missed out on the second Test match after complaining of pain in his right quadriceps but was added to the squad for the third Test.

However, as per a report by Indian Express, KL Rahul failed to prove his fitness, and the BCCI medical team didn’t give him clearance for the third Test match in Rajkot. Former RCB and Karnataka state team batter Devdutt Padikkal has replaced him in the squad.

Who is Devdutt Padikkal, what are his domestic numbers?

Devdutt Padikkal’s selection came on the back of his outstanding knocks played in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament. The southpaw has put in consistent performances for Karnataka and helped the team attain the number one spot in the Elite Group C table.

Devdutt Padikkal is an international cricketer who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket. He made his international debut during the 2021 tour of Sri Lanka.

Padikkal made his debut in the Ranji Trophy for Karnataka during the 2018-19 Ranji season. In his very first Ranji Trophy match on November 28, 2018, Padikkal blazed his way to an outstanding 77-run knock against Maharashtra.

His impressive performances in the domestic circuit that year helped him bag an IPL contract. Ahead of the 2019 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore roped him in for INR 20 lakh.

The 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy saw him become the first Indian batter to score four consecutive List-A centuries. This was followed by a brilliant season in the 2021 IPL season. He notched over 400 runs that season, and it helped him earn a national call-up.

Devdutt Padikkal is a prolific run-getter for Karnataka in domestic cricket. In 31 first-class matches played so far, Padikkal has managed to score 2227 runs at an average of 44.54. As far as his career is concerned, he has 1875 runs to his name in 30 matches at 81.52.

He was also part of the India A squad for the unofficial Test against England A, managing scores of 105, 65, and 21.
