Indian Cricket Team captain, Rohit Sharma is, unarguably, one of the greatest batsmen of the current era. He, recently, led India to the 2023 World Cup final. Unfortunately, India couldn’t go on to win the final against Australia and lift the World Cup trophy.

However, prior to that, the Men in Blue didn’t lose a single game in the tournament. They came into the final on the back of 10 consecutive wins. Captain Rohit Sharma himself was one of the big reasons behind India’s dominating performance in the World Cup.

He was widely praised for his performance throughout the World Cup. He took on an aggressive approach and gave his team wonderful starts throughout the World Cup. Sharma finished the tournament as the second highest run-scorer with 597 runs to his name at an average of 54.27.

Wasim Akram's praise for selfless Rohit Sharma

India played their last stage match against Netherlands in Bangalore and notched a huge total of 410 runs while batting in the first innings. Skipper Rohit Sharma had provided a great start to the team as he played a stellar knock of 61 off 54 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Following the completion of the game, former legendary Pakistan cricketer, Wasim Akram heaped massive praise for the Indian captain.

During a show on A Sports, Akram stated that ‘there’s no player like Rohit Sharma in international cricket.’

“They (India) scored 91 in first 10 overs. The game was over (by) then. Rohit Sharma scored 61 off 54, eight fours and two sixes. I don’t think there’s a player like him in the world today. We talk about Emperor Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Babar Azam but this guy is different. He makes batting look so easy.” Akram said.

“Be any situation, any bowling attack, he plays his shots comfortably. He changes the tempo of the game,” he added.

Shoaib Malik also joined in during that conversation, adding that Rohit Sharma doesn’t care about the reputation of the bowler and attacks everyone.

“He’s the kind of batter who will pummel all five bowlers (in the opponent team). The names that Wasim bhai has taken, they aren’t going to target all five bowlers – they may target 2-3 but not Rohit,” Malik said.

Indian team are currently playing a two-match Test series against South Africa. The first Test is underway at Super Sport Park in Centurion. Rohit Sharma after scoring a delightful boundary departed for 5 off 14 deliveries.
