In an unfortunate turn of events, South African captain Temba Bavuma sustained a left hamstring strain, making him doubtful for the remainder of the ongoing Test match against India in Centurion. During the first session of day 1, Bavuma felt serious discomfort in his left hamstring, as he cramped while running to save a boundary. Following the incident, the Proteas captain walked off the field, going for scans.

The scans revealed a left hamstring strain and as per the latest report, he will undergo daily medical assessment to determine his participation in this match.

Regarding the game, South Africa opted to bowl, inviting India to bat first on a green track. The visitors had a torrid start, with the South African pace battery quickly removing Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stitched a fighting 68-run stand before Kagiso Rabada dismissed both to wreak havoc in the Indian camp.

Ravichandran Ashwin departed for eight, while Shardul Thakur contributed handy 24 runs with three boundaries. Meanwhile, keeper-batter KL Rahul has held the fort for India, showcasing his grit and determination on a tough Centurion track.

As of writing, India are reeling at 169 for 7, with Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah batting on 33* and 0*, respectively.
