Mumbai Indians is one of the most successful IPL franchises, with five titles in its kit bag. Moreover, the man behind the success is none other than its captain and explosive Indian opening batter, Rohit Sharma.
He took charge as the skipper of the prestigious franchise in 2013 and never looked back. Under Sharma's leadership, MI has witnessed nothing but success. Even during its lowest phases, Rohit managed to pull off some of the greatest comebacks the league has ever witnessed.
Having said that, Rohit Sharma's leadership skills were on full display during his decade-long journey as a captain of Mumbai Indians. In multiple instances, the opening batter proved doubters wrong with genius moves that no one could have seen coming.
Rohit Sharma's leadership brilliance
In one such instance, Rohit Sharma proved commentators Aakash Chopra and Sunil Gavaskar wrong with a gutsy bowling change. In a game against Delhi Capitals, Sharma introduced a spinner, Jayant Yadav, in the powerplay when the Capitals were two down at the score of 21 runs.
Gavaskar and Chopra agreed that perhaps Rohit miscued as a spinner generally is not as effective as a fast bowler during power play, especially in a T20 game. The former Indian legend further added that Sharma should have let Jasprit Bumrah continue his spell to generate another wicket.
However, the tables turned when Jayant Yadav picked the big wicket of Shikhar Dhawan to further derail the Capital's innings. As soon as the bails went off, Chopra and Gavaskar couldn't help but applaud Rohit Sharma for his masterstroke.
Gavaskar even added that Rohit has won five titles for a reason, as nobody could have executed his move other than the MI skipper. While they can only say things in the commentary box, Rohit is someone who understands the ground situation better.
Undoubtedly, the incident in question further strengthened Rohit Sharma's legacy as the captain of the esteemed franchise, Mumbai Indians.
