Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques packed a one-handed stunner to dismiss Melbourne Stars opener Thomas Rogers in match number 14 of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 season. Leading Sydney Sixers at the SCG, Henriques made a huge leap while stationed at mid-off and eventually kept his fingers underneath the ball, thus prompting the television umpire to rule the decision in favor of the fielding side.

Australia’s seasoned T20 campaigner Moises Henriques assisted Sydney Sixers’ new-ball speedster Jackson Bird with his first wicket of the innings by holding on to a sensational catch off Melbourne Stars opener Thomas Rogers.

Leading his side at the iconic SCG, an agile Henriques made a huge leap at mid-off with an outstretched right-hand to curtail Rogers’ threatening stay at the crease for 20. The on-field umpires subsequently went upstairs to verify the eligibility of the catch, considering the Sixers skipper had seemingly grassed the ball upon ground impact.

However, constant replays prompted the television umpire to rule the decision in favor of the Sydney Sixers.

Earlier in the game, Moises Henriques scored just five until he was dismissed by Melbourne Stars’ Pakistan import Usama Mir. The Sixers eventually gathered 154-8 by the end of their 20 overs after being jolted at 45-4 at one stage.

The Melbourne Stars romped past their task off the back of a run-chase thunder from middle-order batter Hilton Cartwright.

The outcome marked Sydney Sixers’ first defeat of the BBL 2023-24 season, as they continue to maintain their number two spot on the points table.
