The year 2023 is nearing its end and fans would be pretty pleased with the kind of cricket they saw this year. Some important tournaments took place this year such as World Cup 2023, World Test Championship final, Ashes 2023

Amidst this, a fair share of T20I cricket was also played as well. India played T20I series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, West Indies, Australia and South Africa.

A lot of records have been made this year in the shortest format. The cricketing world also got to see some young talents coming to the fore. There is no doubt that the T20 format is here to stay and is going to be rule the game in the coming years. On that note, let's look at the T20I XI of the year 2023.

Here's The T20I  Team Of The Year 2023

Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

The India’s rising star made his T20I debut in the third match of the T20I series against West Indies in August 2023. He scored his maiden T20I half-century in the very next game of that series, scoring an unbeaten 84 off 51 deliveries.

Jaiswan has made a pretty good start to his T20I career. In 15 T20Is played this year, he has managed to score 430 runs at an average and a strike rate of 33.07 and 159.25, respectively.

Philip Salt (England)

England batter, Philip Salt has showcased his T20I batting prowess this year. Though, he would be disappointed to have gone unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. In 8 T20Is played this year, Salt has accumulated 394 runs, striking at 169.

A day after going unsold at the auction, Salt played a breathtaking knock of 119 runs in just 57 deliveries against West Indies at a strike rate of 208. He helped his team notch a gigantic total of 267 runs in 20 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav (C) (India)

There is no denying that Suryakumar Yadav is, currently, the best T20I batter across the globe. He can play shots all around the ground and when in full flow, it’s nearly unstoppable to stop him. Yadav has scored 733 runs in just 18 T20Is this year, which includes 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries. He will be a one of the most important players for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2023.

He will be the captain of this T20I team of year 2023!

Nicholas Pooran (WK) (West Indies)

West Indies’s left-handed batter has played some exceptional knocks in the shortest format this year. His numbers in this year’s IPL were outstanding and has also batted well for West Indies in T20Is as well.

Pooran has managed to score 384 runs in 13 matches, striking at over 160 and has two half-centuries to his name as well. He also was the highest run-scorer for West Indies in the recent T20I series against England.

Rovman Powell (West Indies)

Since taking over as West Indies’ T20I skipper, Powell’s numbers with the bat have only improved. Batting in the middle-order, he has provided that muscle in West Indies’ batting line up. In 13 T20I played this year, R Powell has scored 324 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 170.

Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)

Sikandar Raza’s career has been on a rise since his exceptional performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup. He scored 219 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 150 in that tournament and later, got selected in IPL as well.

Raza has continued that form in the year 2023 as well. He is the highest run-scorer for Zimbabwe in T20I this year, amassing 515 runs in 12 matches at an outstanding average of 51.50. Besides, he has also managed to pick 17 wickets for the team.

Mark Chapman (New Zealand)

The 29-year-old New Zealand cricketer, Mark Chapman is a specialist when it comes to T20 cricket. He has contributed significantly while batting down the order for New Zealand in T20 internationals this year.

Chapman has managed to score 556 runs in 18 matches, average of 50.54. His strike rate of 145 also demonstrates his power-hitting ability in the short format.

Ish Sodhi (New Zealand)

Ish Sodhi continuous to impress with the ball in T20 internationals for New Zealand. He is the second highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in T2oIs and has picked the most wickets for them this year. In 14 matches, Sodhi has managed to pick 15 wickets at an average of 23.66.

Ravi Bishnoi (India)

Given the performances that Ravi Bishnoi has delivered this year in T20Is, it does look like he has surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal in the pecking order and looks like a prime contender to be part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Bishnoi has managed to pick 18 picked in 11 matches at an average of 17.61. He was exceptional in the T20I series against Australia. Every time the openers raced to a solid start, Bishnoi would come in the powerplay and break the partnership.

Arshdeep Singh (India)

India’s left-arm pacer wasn’t a part of the squad for the 2023 World Cup but is definitely a contender for the 2024 World Cup. No other Indian bowler has picked more wickets than him this year in T20Is.

Singh has as many as 26 wickets to his name in 21 matches at an average of 24.46. His economy of 9.26, though, is slightly on the higher side.

Alzarri Joseph (West Indies)

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph completes our list of best T20I XI of the year. In just 9 T20Is played this year, Joseph has accumulated 16 wickets at an average of 21.06. His impressive performances in the shortest format also helped him fetch a massive contract of INR 11.50 from RCB in IPL 2024 auction.
