When Ajinkya Rahane’s Gesture After Getting Run-Out With Ravindra Jadeja Won Hearts

Ravindra Jadeja’s recent poor call for a single in the third Test match against England, got India’s young debutant Sarfaraz Khan dismissed for 62 runs. Jadeja was brutally trolled after the run out and in the process and old incident of Jadeja being involved in a run out also grabbed eyeballs.

It was the Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test Match of 2020 when India and Australia locked horns for India’s tour of Australia. Ravindra Jadeja called then Test match captain Ajinkya Rahane for a run, which didn’t go in the favor of the spin all-rounder as Rahane got run out at the other end, after failing to make it to the crease. The run-out marked the first in Ajinkya’s test career, who had just achieved a century at the prestigious Melbourne cricket ground.

The Australian team did not seem to be as confident over the appeal however the third umpire’s decision gave everyone the answers, as the Aussies were overjoyed with the dismissal. Jadeja who was batting at a score of 49 was not satisfied with the run out as his call got the Indian skipper dismissed.

However, instead of being disappointed and losing his cool over the spin bowler, Rahane’s brilliant gesture of backing Jadeja despite his poor decision of the runs won the hearts of the fans as well as the cricket fraternity back then. Ajinkya Rahane walked back to the pavilion after a magnificent knock while acknowledging the applause from the crowd.

After the game, Ajinkya Rahane became only the second Indian cricketer to score a century at the Melbourne cricket ground after Sachin Tendulkar. After 1999, it took 21 years for an Indian batsman to score a century at the MCG, which was beautifully achieved by the stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane who was leading the side in the absence of Virat Kohli.
