'A Tactical Ploy' - ENG Great Accuses Ashwin Of Deliberately Running Down The Rajkot Pitch

In a crucial juncture on Day 2 of the Rajkot Test, England were awarded five runs in penalty after Ravichandran Ashwin defied warnings and ran down the danger area of the pitch multiple times. However, the former English skipper, Alastair Cook  alleged conspiracy and accused Ashwin of evil gamesmanship.

India added 100+ runs to their total on Day 2 owing to Dhruv Jurel and Ashwin's 50-run partnership. The duo stepped out with positive intent and forced the Englishmen to toil hard around the field.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Ashwin was caught on the wrong side of the law as he ran down the danger area of the pitch not once but several times.

Initially, the umpires warned the batter, but after repeated violations, the umpires signaled a five-run penalty in England's favor, and accordingly, the visitors started their innings with a score of 5/0.

That being said and done, former successful England captain Alastair Cook alleged conspiracy. While speaking to TNT Sports, Cook claimed Ashwin consciously ran down the pitch and was well aware of his actions.

Cook called it a tactical ploy to damage the pitch so that he could gain a significant advantage while bowling.

“Is it deliberate? Yes, it is. It’s a tactical ploy that you can disturb the middle of the wicket because Ashwin wants as much help when he bowls. That was gamesmanship there, wasn’t it?” Cook said to TNT.

Not only that, but the former skipper called out Ashwin's double standard and took a jibe at his gamesmanship.

That being said, besides Ashwin, centurion Ravindra Jadeja also ran down the danger area of the pitch twice during his time at the crease. Umpires also had to step in then and issue an official warning to Jadeja.

However, before a third and final violation, Jadeja was dismissed during the first hour of Day 2.

Overall, Ashwin's antics have caused a new controversy. It would be interesting to see how the spinner reacts to the accusations and justifies his action in the future.
