India batted first in this match and got off to a great start as their openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, notched up their respective half-centuries. Rain interrupted the game, and it rolled over to the reserve day. India resumed the day on 147/2. Virat Kohli played a blazing knock and scored 122* off 94 deliveries. He was aided by KL Rahul, who also brought up his century and remained unbeaten on 111 off 106 deliveries. The duo stitched together a partnership of 233 runs and took the team to a mammoth total of 356/2 at the end of 50 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav spinned a web around the Pakistan batters

The Pakistani batters failed to respond resiliently to India's brilliant batting effort. They looked under pressure from the beginning of the innings and kept losing wickets regularly.

The Pakistan batting line-up never gathered momentum, and the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav added to their miseries. The Indian left-arm wrist spinner bowled a magical spell, picking up five wickets for 25 runs from his eight overs. The excellent bowling display by Kuldeep meant that the Pakistan team was bundled out for 128 runs in 32 overs. They lost the match by 228 runs, their biggest-ever margin by runs against India.
