The Trinbago Knight Riders have been tasked with chasing down 188 runs by the St. Lucia Kings in the 12th match of the CPL 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia, Gros Islet. The Kings posted 187 runs, guided by a half-century from Roston Chase, after they were put to bat by Kieron Pollard on winning the toss.

Faf du Plessis failed to continue after a promising start

St. Lucia Kings made a blazing start as their openers, Faf du Plessis and Johnson Charles, to the team's total 40 runs before the latter was dismissed. When they were looking strong to build on the start and take the total past the reach of the Knights, they lost two more wickets in quick succession and were in a spot of bother.

At this stage, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Roston Chase got together. They stitched a partnership of 80 runs from 58 deliveries and brought the Kings back into the game. Rajapaksa was dismissed in the 18th over after scoring 33 runs off 29 deliveries. However, even after the Sri Lankan's dismissal, Chase continued on his path. He scored 56 unbeaten runs off 40 deliveries and took his team to a fighting total.

The Knight Riders needed a strong start from their openers to get close to the total. It looked like their experienced campaigner, Sunil Narine, would provide them with exactly that. He slammed a couple of sixes and had the innings going the right way.

Sunil Narine got off the mark with a maximum

Infact, Sunil Narine got off the mark with maximum. On the fifth delivery of the first over, Matthew Forde bowled a good length delivery at the pads of the southpaw. Narine picked up the length early and swatted the ball away towards the square leg region. Roston Chase, who was fielding in the deep, ran to his left and made a full-stretch diving effort to take the catch. However, the ball just evaded him and sailed away for a maximum.

Even though Narine got off to a good start, he could not continue for long. Soon, Khari Campbell dismissed him when he was 14 off seven deliveries. However, this did not slow down TKR. They have posted 70/1 in the first five overs of their chase.
