In a one-sided affair at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans asserted their dominance over Lucknow Super Giants once again, winning by 56 runs in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 held on Sunday, May 7.

The decision of Lucknow Super Giants' captain, Krunal Pandya, to bowl first after winning the toss at a parched Ahmedabad surface has gone horribly wrong, with Gujarat Titans posting a massive total of 227 runs, losing only two wickets in the process.

The Super Giants, in reply, had an electrifying start to their innings with Quinton de Kock and Kyle Myers wreaking havoc, but Gujarat Titans turned the tables and regained control of the game by taking out the much-needed wicket of Mayers.

On the second ball of the ninth over, Mohit Sharma delivered a slower bouncer, which saw Kyle Mayers getting a top edge while trying to pull the ball.

Rashid Khan, who was stationed at deep fine leg, sprinted 26 meters, slipped while running, but ultimately managed to take an incredible catch, forcing Mayers to depart.

The catch was so extraordinary that it left everyone, including fans, commentators, and Virat Kohli, in awe. The former India captain was so impressed that he took to Instagram to share the story of the catch, writing:

“One of the best catches I’ve ever seen, Brilliant Rashid Khan.”

Quinton de Kock, who was playing his first match of the season for LSG, made a strong impression, playing a scintillating 70-run knock off just 41 balls. He and Kyle Mayers shared an 88-run opening partnership before the Caribbean batter was dismissed for 48 runs off 32 balls.

Barring these two, the Super Giants' batting lineup failed to deliver, resulting in a massive collapse that left them 56 runs short of the target. With the competition in the points table being so tight, they need to win all three of their remaining matches if they hope to make it to the playoffs.
