David Warner, the captain of Delhi Capitals, has been in exceptional form in the IPL season 2023. He has been the backbone for his team, providing a strong start and currently leading the team's batting charts.
With every match he plays, he seems to be on a mission to break records and make history. In the 50th match of the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he did just that, breaking a long-standing record of MS Dhoni in the lucrative league.
The star Australia batter etched his name in IPL history books as he became the highest run-scorer against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He had been tied with Dhoni for the joint-highest run scorer, but following his 22-run knock off 14 balls against RCB on Saturday, he surpassed the former Indian captain to claim the top spot.
He has scored a remarkable 861 runs in just 22 innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), boasting an impressive average of 43.05 with a century and nine fifties to his name.
MS Dhoni trails behind in second place with 839 runs in 31 innings and an average of 41.90, while Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma occupies the third spot with 785 runs in 29 innings and an average of 30.19.
Ambati Rayudu rounds out the top four highest run-getters against RCB with a total of 714 runs in 24 innings.
As far as this season is concerned, Warner has scored 330 runs in ten matches, with an average of 33.00 and a strike rate of 120.44, which is relatively low for his standards. He has also struck four half-centuries, with his best score being 65.
Although his strike rate has been a matter of concern, he cannot be solely blamed for it, as not many batters have stepped up to the occasion, leaving him to carry the team on several occasions.
How have Delhi Capitals fared in the tournament?
Delhi Capitals put on a clinical display against RCB on Saturday, making light work of their 188-run target. Phil Salt, Mitchell Marsh, and Rilee Rossouw were the standout performers, helping the Capitals to secure an easy seven wickets victory.
With four wins out of ten matches, they're starting to show their potential. Currently, they are sitting at the second-last spot of the IPL 2023 points table and would be eager to keep their winning momentum going and climb up in the points table.
