Five years ago, on this day, star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah exhibited a seam-bowling masterclass to leave West Indies shell-shocked. Known for his ability to move the ball at a searing pace, Bumrah bagged a sensational hattrick on the second day of the final Test against the Men in Maroon at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

A venue that witnessed the historic 1976 bloodbath had the Windies at the receiving end this time, with Jasprit Bumrah giving the hosts a run for their money. A star was born on the land of Michael Holding and Courtney Walsh, as the visitors reduced West Indies to 87 for seven after posting a whopping 416-run total in their first innings.

Bumrah played a vital role in India's dominating performance, registering a phenomenal hattrick with the red cherry. Darren Bravo was the first one to be dismissed, as Bumrah caught him off guard with a lethal out-swinger.

He followed it up with a deadly nip-backer to trap Shamarh Brooks plumb in front of the stumps. Roston Chase was his third victim, as another in-swinger outfoxed the experienced all-rounder.

Although the umpire adjudged Chase not out, India went upstairs to challenge the decision and were successful in overturning it. Thus, Bumrah put up a memorable bowling performance, bagging a hattrick to leave West Indies in tatters.

Overall, he finished the innings with unbelievable figures of six for 27, leading India's bowling charts in the Test match. His iconic spell is etched in the memories of one and a half billion Indians, who admire him as one of the greatest-ever cricketers from the country.

When will Jasprit Bumrah return to competitive cricket?

After helping India win the 2024 T20 World Cup through his exceptional bowling performance in the final against South Africa, Bumrah was rested for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. He won't even participate in the Duleep Trophy and is expected to return for the Bangladesh Tests on home soil.
